We have had some amazing holidays in Italy and it has to be said that one of the things that have made them so good (as well as seeing Granny and Grandpa!) is the delicious food that the country is so good at producing.
The fruit and vegetables are all fresh, tasty and delicious and the antipasti is moreish to say the least! Fresh olives, cold meats, cheese and pickles combine to make a meal in themselves. Anchovies are an essential ingredient too adding a richness and flavour. They are also full of goodness!

We were sent a Delicius tasting box of anchovies flavoured with olive oil, capers, Italian herbs and chilli to try out. The perfect excuse to rewind the clock to our holidays in Italy and knock up an antipasti selection..

 

Anchovies can also be added to cooking to add that distinctive saltiness. We added the anchovies with chilli to a simple tomato sauce and also to pizza adding a cracking flavour to liven things up.

Woodworx Jet Fighter Kit – -review and giveaway #win

  

A few weeks ago we watched the amazing Red Arrows at Chatsworth Country Fair. We also visiting the brilliant Air Museum in Newark so the boys have been really quite interested in jet fighters and generally machines that fly.

We were sent a Woodworx Jet Fighter kit from Interplay to try out. Retailing at £9.99 and with everything that is needed included in the box this looked like the kind of thing that the boys might enjoy!

Now the boys really aren’t really especially into doing crafts, no matter how hard I try to persuade them, but every now and again sometime does capture their interest. They did indeed like the idea of making something, painting it, adding on the stickers and then playing with it!

  
The kit really is exceptional quality. The sturdy wooden pieces are flatpacked but the instructions to assemble are really clear. The instructions are  visually interesting with lots of pictures which is useful. 

It says that under 8 year olds may need help and over 8 years would be able to work independently which I would agree with.  There is plenty of glue in the kit to complete the model and it held the plane together perfectly. 

 

We left the plane to dry overnight and painted it the next day. Once the paint was dry we added on the stickers. 

It was a fun little project to do together after school. It even inspired our youngest to start painting his own watercolours!

Bug Safari review and #giveaway @interplayuk #minibeast

My Living World’s Bug Safari contains everything you need for hunting minibeasts and learning more about the creatures that live just outside your door; in your garden, the local park or woods.

Inside the box is a bug hunting guide with information of what kinds of insects you may find with hunting tips and lots of facts and advice. There is also a pair of tweezers for handling larger insects, a magnifying glass for close up action, a small paint brush for cleaning down insects, some handy bug collecting tongs and a magnifying pot to store your collection of insects.

The boys didn’t need much persuasion to get out in the garden digging out what creatures we have living there. Learning about minibeasts (which basically means small animals without a backbone) is a key part of the Science curriculum for EYFS and KS1 so this kit is a fantastic way for children to do some hands on learning. Before you could say “ants in your pants” they had filled the clear jar with around 12 different types of minibeast all found under plant pots, around trees and scuttling about the decking. Great educational fun!

 

Don’t forget to return all of your captured treasures back to the wild back to their home when you have finished looking at them as they play an important part in our habitat. Be careful also not to collect creatures like bees and wasps that might be a tad angry at been cased up and will be likely to sting!

 

If you or your children are fans of minibeasts this is a fantastic kit for safely handling the little creatures. The enclosed guide is fun and informative. The perfect treat to keep children busy in the Summer holidays and learning too!

Surviving the morning rush with belVita breakfast biscuits #MorningWin @britmums

Breakfast is my favourite meal of the day. All things related to breakfast I could happily live in forever! I am in my element at a hotel with a good breakfast selection! Bacon, sausage, egg, tomatoes, fruit, pastries, cereal.. the list goes on! I also cannot function until I have had that first cup of tea and something nutritious snd filling to eat.

Mornings in our house are pretty chaotic at the moment. We are just about adjusted to the new routines of me dashing out the house at 8am or earlier for teacher training and the boys having to be much more independent at getting themselves ready.

They have been complete stars though and really risen to the challenge. I leave their clothes out for them and they shower and get dressed without too much fuss (most of the time!).

Last weekend we had another fantastic turn of events!

Noah brought me breakfast in bed made all himself!

And Ethan made a cup of tea all by himself!

I was so impressed! They were also chuffed to bits with their achievement.

belVita breakfast biscuits have really come to the rescue with busy mornings. I know we should ideally take time to enjoy put food and not grab snd run but realistically this is what I am doing.

I couldn’t choose a favourite as they are all so good in their own way.

What really amazed me is how filling these biscuits are.

I was pleasantly surprised to still feel full by mid morning. They are the only breakfast biscuits proven to slowly release carbohydrates over four hours when taken with a portion of fruit, a serving of dairy and a drink for a perfectly balanced breakfast.

I’m not keen on the packaging of the biscuits however as the clear plastic wrapper doesn’t really reflect the quality of the biscuit inside.

As you get older you start to realise there is so much that life has taught us along the way.

Although I like to think that rather than having regrets, I had learning experiences that made me who I am today, there were definitely things I would do differently. Hindsight is a wonderful thing eh!

The first thing that comes to mind however, is how I felt after having my first baby nearly 8 years ago. I know babies don’t come with a manual of instructions so I went for the next best thing (or so I thought!) and devoured parenting books like they were going out of fashion! I was looking for the answers, which I now realise don’t exist. So I would tell myself to just follow my hear and believe in my own instincts of what is the right thing to do (and don’t listen too much to anyone else’s opinion!).

So, if you could revisit your younger self, what would you say to them?

Would it be to work harder at school, save more (this is one for me as I don’t have much of a pension), believe in yourself, remember to live life to the full, be a bit braver (this is me too!) or just simply wear your hair however you want?
